What’s Going On?

You ever feel like you’re missing out?
Like there’s things afoot you just don’t see?
When change occurs and you see nowt,
How close you are is what that’ll be.

There’s a side to absence we don’t applaud,
The side that means you’re eyes are open,
You see little things that have you floored,
Like bigger cheeks than when the day began.

A solid body wriggles under your fingers,
A strong leg kicking at a dirty nappy,
This boy’s grow in just those few hours,
Without being away I wouldn’t be so happy.

So while I while the hours away,
And you keep your mother locked to the sofa,
I imagine your smile at the end of the day,
And occasionally think of you puking on her shoulder.
